the cocoon

"Through the woods you catch a glimpse of light. As part of nature the organic shape of THE COCOON nestles up against the environment. Two intersecting bamboo leaves create shelter and space. The structure follows the image of nature: A strong centered grain arches from one end to the other; together with the margins and the lateral veins, the centered grain forms the inner shell of the leaf. Looped edges add details to the roof. An overarched ridge stiffens the overall structure.

The interior floor area is defined by a raised leaf-shaped symmetrical platform made of standing bamboo slices. In-ground-lights illuminate the roof in a warm-white color and pendent lights spot the working area for the therapists. Complementary service valets and shelves are attached.

The apertures of THE COCOON can be closed with white mosquito nets and soft curtains which symbolize the multiple layered silk casing of a cocoon."  [THE ARCHITECT]
